Hagan Homes, one of Northern Ireland’s largest homebuilders, has taken a leap in technology by accepting Bitcoin as payment, the Belfast Telegraph reported.

Jamesy Hagan, the developer’s managing director, said the company decided to allow buyers to use Bitcoin in line with the wide acceptance of the digital currency globally.

“Bitcoin is an innovative new payment method and essentially a new kind of money. It is very similar to a cash transaction,” he said.

“There has been a significant growth in the use of Bitcoin worldwide and our acceptance of this new channel reflects our willingness to respond to the market,” he added.

The company also took note of increasing international investors in the country’s residential sector.

“The international appeal of Northern Ireland is continuing to grow,” Hagan said. “There are an increasing number of international investors establishing businesses in Northern Ireland and subsequently this means that the number of people wanting to live, work or invest in Northern Ireland is increasing.”

The Belfast Telegraph reported that Hagan Homes turned over a record of more than £18 million homes in 2016/17, which its also its second biggest year of home completions since its started 30 years ago.
