Takes In Former PayPal Chief Tyson Hackwood

Dec 12, 2018 at 23:03 has pulled into its team a former Paypal executive whose role will be focused on boosting merchant uptake of the firm’s product.

In a Dec. 11 press release, the company announced Tyson Hackwood as its senior vice president and head of global merchant acquisition.

“I am thrilled to join the team to help to grow Pay through strategic partnerships with merchants,” said Hackwood.

“My experience in working with digital driven organisations and developing collaborative business channels, combined with’s intuitive platform, will aid in the steady and sustainable adoption of this native blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies.”

The new official said he would prioritize increasing merchant uptake of the product—this, at a time when players are scrambling to get their own share of the point-of-sale market.

Hackwood was previously head of the Australian branch of PayPal Here and chief of Asia Pacific for mobile and web payment offshoot Braintree.

“As we develop the Chain to fulfil the current industry need to pay and be paid in crypto, Tyson will play an important role in expanding the number and quality of merchants that are part of our network,” CEO Kris Marszalek commented.

Despite the crash in cryptocurrency prices throughout the year, many are hoping to see an overturn soon, whether it be spread across the board or impacting only some names.
