South Korean tech giant Samsung has reportedly filed at least three applications for blockchain-related trademark requests for smartphones.

According to a report from Dutch tech news blog Galaxy Club, the three European trademark requests pertain to providing crypto custody services on smartphones.

The application hints that Samsung may be interested to make its entry into the blockchain powered smartphone market.

Notably, the three requested patents are called Blockchain KeyStore, Blockchain key box, and Blockchain Core.

Citing an unnamed source, the report also mentioned that Samsung is planning to release more information about the crypto venture, soon.

Last October, Taiwan-based HTC launched its blockchain-based smartphone, making it the first company to do so.

Meanwhile, last August, Samsung’s IT development arm, Samsung SDS Co., also launched its very own blockchain based certification platform called BankSign that is expected to improve bank transactions.

The platform was developed in partnership with the Korea Federation of Banks will allow interactions between different banks’ mobile systems.
